I.M.U Enterprise Ltd. (IMU), a part of a local business conglomerate Sein Wut Hmon Group, has completed a joint venture with British American Tobacco (BAT) to manufacture, distribute and market the BAT brands in the domestic market. The Myanmar Investment Commission has approved the joint venture foreign investment in January 2013.

British American Tobacco (BAT) is a leading tobacco company which is successful worldwide, with millions of consumers who enjoy its brands. In 2012, BAT has sold 694 billion cigarettes, made in 44 factories in 39 countries. BAT has over 55,000 employees worldwide, and there are more than 200 brands in its portfolio. BAT’s leading brands are: Dunhill, Kent, Lucky Strike, Pall Mai, and other famous international brands and local brands.

British American Tobacco (BAT) will have the majority share in the joint venture company with I.M.U Enterprise Ltd. (IMU), named as “British American Tobacco Myanmar Ltd.” The Company is planning to invest approximately USD 50 million over 5 years to establish a world-class manufacturing facility that will produce London, an iconic brand of international prestige and quality.

The JV company aims to rebuild the market leading position that it historically had, and is keen on offering consumers an attractive range of international quality products and brands through responsible marketing. It is committed to developing local talent in technical know-how and management capabilities while also creating more employment opportunities. The Company plans to employ over 400 people in the beginning, and also plans to collaborate with local farmers to improve their yield and quality of home-grown tobacco.
